Process Paper
How I Chose My Topic:
When we were first told we were doing NHD, I was like, “NO!!!” I did not know what I would do it on or how I would present my project. I began thinking what I would do it on. I was watching TV and I heard the name Christopher Columbus. Then. I thought, “ hey” I could do my project on him. It is relating to the theme and I bet no one else is doing it. I was set but I just needed a partner. I decided to work with Zuli. I was relieved that I was doing it with her. It is such a good subject so; I could get lots of research. Now I’m glad I watch TV it helped me with NHD.
How You Conducted Your Research:
When I first began researching it was hard to find good sources on Christopher Columbus. I first tried to type in Christopher Columbus but way to many things popped up. I then started to use advanced search. This really narrowed it down. I was really good at getting secondary sources. Zuli helped me to find a couple of them though. The primary sources were definitely harder. It was not easy finding drawings and paintings from 1492.I also found some of Columbus’s journal entries. The journal entries were good primary sources. My notecards were a littler hard to but now I will have a summary of all my information. I also went early to NHD research to catch up if I was behind on my research.
How You Selected Your Presentation Category And Created Your Project:
When I was choosing my presentation style I was thinking what was best for me. I did not do a documentary because I am not good at making movies. I did not do a paper because writing a lot is just not my thing. I did not do a play because I do not like to act in front of other people. I didn’t do an exhibit because I always do exhibits. This left one thing which was a website. I like technology even though I am not that good at it so it was just right. I began making it by adding in my tabs. I first put the people, ideas, and events tabs so I could so it related to the theme. Then, I added the rest of my tabs and pictures.
How Your Project Relates To The NHD Theme:
Christopher Columbus discovering America relates to the theme because without him the country would not be here. We probably would not be here either. Columbus’s discovery was such an important event. All the people involved were also important like his crew, King Ferdinand, Queen Isabella, Arawak, and Taino Indians. The ideas were important to; like how he planned his route to Asia. Good thing Columbus didn’t that would not have been very good. The events like hoe Columbus killed millions of innocent Indians and made four voyages. If Columbus decided to not even come to “Asia” or really America life would not be the same. My project on Columbus really relates to the theme “Turning Point In History.”
